Responsibilities
🤓 As a Technical Writer, the company expects you to...
- Own and continuously improve the READMEs and documentation across Flagsmith's open-source repositories, which are often the first touchpoint developers have with the product.
- Manage Flagsmith's user-facing technical documentation at docs.flagsmith.com, including documentation related to self-hosting, deployment, integrations, and product usage.
- Work closely with engineering teams so documentation is created and released alongside new product features, rather than after launch.
- Proactively identify documentation gaps and determine what content should be created, updated, consolidated, or removed.
- Own and improve Flagsmith's internal documentation in Notion, covering both technical and organisational knowledge.
- Contribute to Flagsmith's technical marketing content, including blog articles, landing pages, comparison pages, and educational resources.
- Create educational product content such as video demos, walkthroughs, implementation examples, and tutorials.
- Test SDKs, read source code, review implementations, and work directly with engineers to understand technical behaviour before documenting it.
- Help establish and maintain a high standard for documentation quality, structure, consistency, and developer experience across the company.
Requirements
✨ You are the person they are looking for if you have...
- At least 1 year of experience writing technical content for a developer audience, including technical documentation, tutorials, READMEs, implementation guides, or technical blog posts.
- A strong technical foundation, either through a Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related degree, or equivalent hands-on experience working with software.
- The ability to read and understand code across different programming languages, even if you are not actively developing every day.
- Experience working with docs-as-code workflows, including Git, Markdown, pull requests, and static site generators.
- The ability to take technical concepts, incomplete information, or complex explanations and turn them into clear, structured documentation that developers can easily follow.
- Excellent written communication skills and a strong point of view on what makes technical documentation useful and effective.
- Genuine curiosity for technology and a willingness to dig into how products actually work.
- Interest in and familiarity with open-source technologies.
- A proactive and autonomous mindset. You are comfortable identifying documentation gaps and deciding what needs to be created or improved without waiting for detailed instructions.
💜 They’ll love your profile even more if you have...
